St. Mary’s Graduates 4th Class Of School At Work Students
Health, People

If you’ve avoided college, it might be because you didn’t think you could do it or maybe there just wasn’t enough time in a day or you didn’t have the confidence.

Those excuses don’t work at St. Mary's Hospital. This year employees in entry-level positions were given the opportunity to climb the company ladder by attending School at Work.

On Thursday, St. Mary’s was graduating these students into a world of possibilities. The hospital celebrated the commencement of its fourth such School at Work class.

The nine students have been studying everything from English and math to medical terminology for the past six months. They attended and were paid for a two-hour class weekly, but also had hours of homework to complete between class.

Nationwide, more than 4,500 students at 320 hospitals in 39 states have graduated from SAW.

On average, 17 percent are promoted within 90 days of graduation and 33 percent enroll in a local college. St. Mary’s employees who do enroll in higher education are eligible for tuition reimbursements as well.
