Large consignment sale offers children's, maternity items

Bargain hunters will find a variety of used maternity and children's clothes for sale at a consignment event at the Alliant Energy Center this weekend.

The Just Between Friends sale, which opens at 9 a.m.,began Friday and will continue through Sunday.

Items including clothes, books, toys, strollers, puzzles, games, shoes, nursing pillows, Diaper Genies, maternity wear and more can be found at the JBF sale.

High school players tip off versus officers to 'Play it Forward' Saturday

A special fundraising event Saturday will have Madison police officers and area high school basketball players face off at West High School, the police department said Wednesday. 

Madison police said the Play it Forward game will raise money for the upcoming Black Student Union spring break college tour to the Washington, D.C. area. Tip off is at 1 p.m. at the West High School basketball court. 

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students and will be available at the door or online

Basketball players from Memorial, West and LaFollette varsity teams will play against the PD team of 15 officers.

Moonlight Movie Series to premiere in late February with "Frozen"

The Madison Parks Moonlight Movie Series will start Feb. 27 with a showing of the movie "Frozen."

Residents are encouraged to bring their families and blankets to Tenney Park for the movie showing at 6 p.m.

The movie showings will continue with other family-friendly classics, like "Battleship" and "The Incredibles," in the coming months at various Madison parks.

Madison Parks, Madison Mallards, the Madison Parks Foundation present the event, which is sponsored by Zimbrick Honda.

Wizard World takes weekend residence in Madison

Wizard World Comic Con is in Madison this weekend offering a variety of pop culture-related entertainment.

The event takes place at the Alliant Energy Center Friday through Sunday.

Wizard World brings together thousands of fans of all ages to celebrate pop culture, movies, graphic novels, cosplay, comics, television, sci-fi, toys, gaming, original art, collectibles, contests and more.

Wizard World Comic Con Madison show hours are from 3-8 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday; and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday.

Lou Ferrigno of “The Incredible Hulk” and Jason David Frank of the “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” are among several celebrities expected to attend Wizard World.

Madison's winter clothes drive happening this month

Madison Parks is partnering with Community Action Coalition of South Central Wisconsin, Inc. on an outdoor winter clothes drive Jan. 5-16.

Winter coats, snowpants, boots, hats, scarves, and gloves may be dropped off during operating hours at the following locations:

  • Tenney Park Shelter, 402 N. Thornton Ave.
  • Vilas Park Shelter, 1400 Vilas Park Dr.
  • Elver Park Shelter, 1250 McKenna Blvd.
  • Odana Hills Golf Course, 4635 Odana Road

Operating Hours:

Shelter hours are weekdays 3-9 p.m. and weekends 11 a.m.-9 p.m.Odana Hills hours are weekends 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.

Habitat for Humanity asking for volunteers

Habitat for Humanity is seeking families to build homes in Madison, Sun Prairie, Fitchburg, and Stoughton.

Over the last year, Habitat for Humanity of Dane County has purchased 29 family unit lots in Sun Prairie, 24 lots in Fitchburg and eight lots in Madison.

For individuals and families interested in building with Habitat for Humanity, informational meetings will be held:

Jan. 11, 1-2:30 p.m., Clarion Suites, 2110 Rimrock Road

Jan. 14, 6-7:30 p.m., Clarion Suites, 2110 Rimrock Road

If interested in partnering with Habitat, attendance at one of these meetings is mandatory.
