Madison Man Targeted By Door-To-Door Sales Scam | Crime
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
A Madison man recently filed a self report with police regarding a door-to-door sales scam near Meyer Avenue on Madison's near west side.
The 40-year-old told police that a woman between the ages of 18 and 23 came to his home last month peddling magazine subscriptions. She said this was a fundraiser, with part of the proceeds going to help young people study abroad, according to the police report.
The man said he did not want any magazines, but wrote a $20 check to Mts Circulation. When he checked his bank statement, a couple of weeks later, he found the check had been altered, police said.
The check was doctored turning his $20 donation into a $120 donation, police said.
Anyone with information about the scam is asked to call Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 608-266-6014.
