In the most recent case, police said a husband and wife living in the 1800 block of Vilas Avenue were awakened Tuesday morning by a burglar alarm. The woman heard footsteps downstairs and yelled, asking the intruders to get out. The couple found they had left their garage door open and failed to lock the door from the garage into their home. An iPad and iPhone were stolen.
Officers are also looking into other similar crimes and have increased patrol visibility throughout the downtown and neighborhoods adjacent to the University of Wisconsin and Edgewood campuses.
Residents are asked call 911 if they see suspicious persons or vehicles in their neighborhoods.
